With light gauge strings the neck has a slight forward bow which is not adjustable.
1974 there is no adjustable truss rod
By de-tuning a bit the neck straightens out so you could use lower gauge
The forward bow is not serious but it is also not perfect.
This issue is very common with old Martin guitars as they usually need maintanence as they age
